Summertime in South Africa has arrived and what a feeling it is to enjoy the warm sunshiny days!
In a town like Knysna, nature`s playground is right on our doorstep – filled with mountains, beaches, lakes, and lagoons that provide a variety of outdoor activities to be enjoyed.
Generally speaking, the best time of year in Knysna for being out and about enjoying warm-weather activities is from late November to late March but it can be surprising – we have recently experienced a spout of heavy rains in November – some 42mm and even more for neighbouring towns.
Observing the changing elements of nature, with all her nuances, is a wonderful pastime. Noting the tide predictions and times of Sunrise, Sunset, Moonrise, and Moonset can be handy if you love to surf, dive, go fishing or enjoy walking on the beach.
(For reference, a tide table can be found at https://www.sanho.co.za )
As we become aware of the rhythms of seasonal change, the rhythms of the tides, and the daily patterns that are all around us, it can be engaging and provide moments of being mindfully immersed in life.
On the subject of Tides, interesting Knysna lagoon has the largest volume of seawater entering during neap and spring tides, we have one of the highest biodiversity levels of any lagoon in South Africa (source: SanParks)
Nature provides us with so many surprising discoveries and pastimes to delight the soul.
What better a time to observe our beautiful surroundings and enjoy the season ahead.
