One of the many attractions of owning a property on Thesen Islands is the opportunity to frequently enjoy watersports. Boating on Thesen Islands is the activity of choice for many of the locals, and many of the homes have their own private jetty.
During Season, there is a hive of activity on the canals with residents and visitors alike enjoying the outdoor lifestyle. From the islands’ waterways, there is direct access to the massive Knysna lagoon, giving the opportunity to explore and experience days filled with adventure.
The calm waterways around the Islands do however constitute a wake-free zone. Large wakes or waves from boats will slowly wash the soil away and in time the plants will be adversely affected.
Marine life
The marine life in the waterways, including the rare and endangered Knysna Seahorse, is extremely sensitive. The waterways are a vital component of Thesen Islands and their well-being contributes greatly to the success of Thesen Islands and the value of your investment.
Helpful guidance and information
Fortunately, the Thesen Islands Home Owners Association TIHOA outlines the regulations and offers some helpful guidance and information around boating. All boats must also be registered at the HOA office where you can also obtain an ID decal for your boat. This identifies your boat as belonging to a Thesen Islander and therefore permitted in the waterways or to be moored at a communal jetty.
It is always good practice to keep emergency numbers at hand, especially those such as National Sea Rescue. Remember to enjoy your boat, the water and the fresh air, but enjoy it while boating responsibly!
